March of The Penguins

Thursday, March 16th, 2006

What do you know about the penguins?

This documentary movie beautifully captured the penguins cycles of life through below freezing temperature on The South Pole, bitter winter storms, predators, struggle, unfortunate events but also the amazing march to the mating place, the bonding times, hope, happiness and passion.
The white quiet lonely cold South Pole is not too scary while this long journey of life presented with the carefully edited penguins survival instinct scene and empowering but yet calming back ground music orchestra.
Morgan Freeman tells this heart touching bed time story as you go to bed and smile as you dream.
The penguins teach us the parenting skills, somehow much better!!

You would appreciate the world differently after you watch this movie.

Oscar winner!!
9 stars!!! Highly recommended!!

Hore sudah dekat mau pulang!

Tuesday, March 14th, 2006

Wah..jadi agak-agak ngeri nih.

Tapi, Insya Allah semuanya berjalan lancar. Perjalanan 30 jam ke Jakarta dengan 4 kali stop turun naik pesawat agaknya berharga untuk sekedar melepas rindu.

Jakarta, here I come!!

Crazy night!!

Sunday, March 12th, 2006

This one was happening about a week ago, but it still stay fresh in my mind.
Call me a bad driver but I always try to be safe while I am driving.
Phil calls me an Aggressive driver…well what ever it means, I know that I could easily lost temper when someone being selfish jerk on the highway.
So, that night I left work at 7.15 PM. It was kind of late for me…I was tired and starving what could be worse than that!!
I took 152 highway because it is usually pretty quiet and not too many traffic lights anyway.
The speed limits is 60mi/hour and I was on 70….
I was staying on the fast lane when I saw this car on the same lane in front of me. If it was me in that car and saw a faster car coming behind me, I would changed the lane automatically and gave the faster car the way.
But not, this jerk….I didn’t know why he or she didn’t want to change to other lane and let me have my way…since he drove slower than me.
Well…I kept my patient and stayed behind this moron for couple minutes. Still didn’t move….what the heck??
Huh…as usual I built up my temper until I run off my patient……Bad move dude…….!! So, I took right lane, speed up a little bit and got in front of that car without gave a blinker. Then, I just went faster and left the stupid jerk behind.
Suddenly the same car was appeared behind me and got too close to my car…and was tail gaiter for a while.
Holly crap, I realized that the driver got angry because I cut off in front of him……!! I felt fear and worried that he would pass me and stop me in the middle of the road……
Before that happen, I just took off……Hit the gas….took off at 80 mi/hour……….Don’t care….as long as I could get away from this maniac….
Maybe the driver at the other car thought that I was the maniac because I was driving at 80 (128km/jam) at 60 speed limit. So, he backed off……

Phewwww………………..I was relief when that car disappeared.

What a night, but I swore to  my self that I would never do that again especially when Kaela is in the car…No chance!! I will try to be graceful (??) and let selfish idiot go ahead and have their way……My life and Kaela are far more precious than silly cars racing out of anger of mine!!

PS.I am apologize for some bad words, but I used those words to release my anger that I am still keeping in my heart up to know about that incident. Hey..is that a sign that I should take an anger management class? Hehehehe……………

Tornado

Sunday, March 12th, 2006

This one is the continuing of my previous post about the hail and storm.
Well, after we had big storm and hail in the morning, we got another storm attack in the afternoon. This one was even bigger than what had happened in the morning.
The weather channels was keeping the storm track and issued tornado warning. Phillip told us to remain sitting in the basement as we watched the TV. I was quiet nervous when the siren roared to warn about the possibility of tornado. Outside, hails was pouring like rain….just like that…dropping from the sky and the sound was horrible when it hits the roof or windows. The siren gave me butterfly in my stomach as it remind me of tornado attack which happened to us about three years ago.

May 2003,
I was only couple months living in USA, and started settle down at our first super tiny apartment in Liberty. One day, I was watching the MTV channel and I think it was Sunday  afternoon when the whole morning already wet. Then suddenly the channel got interrupted by the warning the possibility of tornado, but..hey..I didn’t know anything about tornado…never heard it and never care about it!! Phillip was acting nervous, he started picked up our rain jackets and told me to wear it and covered Kaela with warmer clothes. Then the siren was off….I was still unaware of what would happen then. I even got upset at Phil because he switched off the TV. When the siren went louder and would never stop, I could see that the sky got really darkened and the winds was blowing so fast. We went down to the first floor and headed to the laundry room. There were some neighbors already there and were looking nervously at the sky.
Phil was trying to set us up to be away from the windows or heavy laundry machines. I remember I was standing outside to see the sky, when suddenly I saw a big whirling dark wind coming from a distance. Everybody screaming,
"Oh my God…is coming…tornado is coming….oh my God!’
"Get inside…………"
Phillip pushed me and Kaela to a small closet and closed the door while he was standing in front the door to prevent it open. The big move that you have to do if you in tornado path, is to go down to the lowest ground. But we didn’t have the underground basement at that apartment…..
When I was inside the closet, Kaela was crying the whole time so I didn’t hear anything. When I asked Phillip what was it like when the tornado passing through the building, he to told me that the sound just like a train passing by and although he saw a clear air but he could see a lot of debris flying over and suddenly the roof got lift up and flew like a piece of paper!!…After couple minutes inside the closet, Phillip opened the door and told me that it was safe to get out.
When I saw over the window….OH MY GOD!! Couldn’t believe my eyes……
Everything were up side down, the roof was gone, clustered pieces of woods here and there, broken windows, the green grass covered by debris…..It was horrible so one of the girl who was pregnant got hysterical and started screaming and crying.

Allahu Akbar (God is Great!!)…………….
Some students who lived at William Jewell dorm came and checked the apartment one by one by screaming "Is anybody there? Are you OK?……
It was surreal…….We were lucky that our building didn’t get torn up by the other building was a mess. We got big tree fell on the roof so the whole apartment got wet. But our car was a wreck……
Liberty was totally closed, we had to walk to reach the road that still open for traffic and waited for Phillip’s parents to picked us up. We had to stay with them for couple weeks and could never come back to our first apartment again…….!!

Back to what was happening today, for the first time I saw big hails as big as golf ball. I went out and picked some of them just to feel how hard it is. Holly cow, these hails are hard as a rock!! I believe if someone get hit by the hails as big and as hard like I hold in my hand, it would smash the skull easily.
Too bad, tornado hit the ground in Sedalia area. Killed one person, two are missing, six injured and hundred cars and building got damaged. My prayer are with them who had this unfortunate event!

Hail

Sunday, March 12th, 2006

Winter is almost over and spring is coming along with the rain, storm, and hail (hujan es) and also the possibility of tornado as well….hmm..the extra baggage.
This morning I woke up with dark sky, I looked over the window and the winds seemed blowing fast. Very strong made the tress leaned low…..
"This is going to be interesting" I told my self as Kaela confused because there was no electricity for a moment.
Then suddenly, the winds blowing faster and hail came down pouring like a rain…Holly cow!! The hails were as big as golf ball….big one!! Wowww…….It kept coming…..and Phillip sighed …..
"So there goes a bunch of cars which parked outside…get damaged.."
Yep….those cars couldn’t resist the heavy ice balls dropped from the sky freely and it would make a dent here and there on the body…..Geee…..!!! Fortunately, we always park our cars inside!!
The storm only last for five minutes then everything went normal…quiet…for a while until only on  seconds count I heard siren of fire truck or ambulance frantically on and off from a distance.
Watched the TV, we learned that on other areas, the hail was big as baseball ball, huge big truck collapsed on the street got blown over the strong winds, and weather reporter  announced a Tornado Warning (angin puting beliung) which is remind me of our Tornado experience back almost three years ago. I will write a post about it, that was a heck of an experience!!….
Yeahhh…spring is coming!!!

Today was beautiful…Warm weather reached up to 75oF or about 24oC..
Everyone was out and just enjoying a break from cold winter. I was driving from work with the windows opened….Felt like winter is over….Of course it is not over yet but  to have a nice warm day in the end of the winter was like having a breeze in the hot summer day….Mmm..I am ready for the Spring….!!
